To Restore... Preserve... Display... Educate

Several times every year, MRPS opens the site of its historic B&O Roundhouse for public open houses. This is part of our mandate to provide education about railroading, and to show people our plans to restore the roundhouse and our various pieces of vintage rolling stock.

You’ll take a guided tour where you will visit several buildings and go inside restored vintage railroad cars. You’ll hear about the history of railroading in Cleveland, of the roundhouse, and of various pieces of our restored railroad equipment; learn about railroad safety; and find out how some train systems work. And, equipment and weather permitting, you’ll take a short ride on one of our restored Pullman coaches.

Directions and a map to our site can be found by clicking on the “Roundhouse” link on the left.

All Open Houses are from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm, and are held rain or shine. Please be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes, as the site is still in rough condition. Refreshments are available.

Our remaining Open House schedule for the 2010 season is listed below.  We have an exciting CAR SHOW to go along with our Open House in October, so that should be an exciting day for everyone! Please see the "click here" link below for more details.

    - Sunday, October 10, 2010
    - Sunday, November 28, 2010

** A couple of things to note for the October event that are different from our usual Open Houses:

- Note that the event is on a Sunday, not our usual Saturday (This also applies to the November Open House)
- Note that the event begins at 11:00am instead of our usual 12:00pm. Cars registering for the car  show can come an hour earlier. It will still go until 4:00pm as always, with the last guided tour leaving around 3:00pm.
- Because of the car show, there will be a RAIN DATE of October 17. Our Open Houses are usually held rain or shine, but not this one. - Guided tours that go through some of our vintage railroad cars and talk about railroading and railroad history will still be conducted, but because of the car show visitors will also be able to walk around the grounds on their own.
- There will be a licensed food vendor on site for hot dogs, etc.

Because some of these dates are still subject to being changed, please check back here periodically. We'll have details for the next confirmed open house date available in the link below.

For more details about our next Open House, click here. This is a 1-page flyer that you can easily print (Feel free to pass it along to others...)

We look forward to seeing you at the Roundhouse this year!
